LIZ
Hi, I am Liz Hill after the sad demise of Dovetails a lot of my time has been taken up with my daughters who for the last couple of years have had to cope with huge changes in their lives.
Emma my eldest daughter is 17, will be attending university after the summer break.Hannah is my younger daughter 12, is in her second year at secondary school and doing well. I musn't forget Maya, our dog a lakeland terrier who is on a diet at the moment and is a little unhappy !!!
Most of our spare time has been taken up with redecoration and sprucing up our flat for sale in the near future. Hopefully it won't take long to sell......a bit scary but also very exciting moving on to pastures new. We shall keep you up to date with our progress.
There are a couple of photos of my work below, we only work to traditional methods. Each piece is recorded, photographed from the time received till it leaves our care. this gives the customer and ourselves a record of work undertaken on a piece.
Here is an example of Liz's work it is a small steel framed victorian chair. It has been covered a number of times before but this time its in for the full works. The back frame of this piece is a metal construction, this has problems of its own as there is no area to hammer tacks into so it entails stitching by hand ensuring the tension is consistent throughout. The seat is replaced with new webbing, hessian, horsehair , springs all re-tyed and fresh calico. This was a considerable undertaking.
The customer decided on choosing her own fabric, pinky red silk.
This is the chair almost completed and unrecognisable from the original.
This is the thistle chair it arrived in in a poor state it had been badly reupholstered in a nasty fabric with little or no attention paid to finishing or quality of materials.

Liz replaced the fillings and set about installing this lovely fabric, the seat foam was replaced with a lovely new cushion all hand stitched it was fabulous and the customer was chuffed to bits.

This was a sad looking late victorian chair it had few redeeming features, we love contemporary fabrics and are always keen to promote them. Here is a slightly quirky combo. It worked well as this piece spent very little time on display and sold really quickly.
